Valentine’s Day Special: 12 Romantic Destinations to Visit in 2017

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We are celebrating the most precious of #HallmarkHolidays by shining a little light on some of the world’s most romantic destinations. These places are made for canoodling, proposals, and PDA. Not feeling the love this year? Interestingly enough, almost all of these soul-stirring spots also happen to be perfect for solo travelers!

12 Romantic Destinations You Should Visit ASAP

Arenal, Costa Rica

What do hot springs, mud baths, and resplendent resorts have in common? How about, “opportunities to get touchy-feely for $200, Alex?” Yeahhhh. If you’re looking to spice things up with your luvva, the mountainous volcanic region of Costa Rica should be at the top of your list.

Paris, France

Paris has a long-standing reputation for being the most romantic city in the world, and rightly so! Paris—and romance—are about pure indulgence. Chocolates on every corner. Champagne at lunch. I’m pretty sure every girl in the world has dreamed of walking hand-in-hand past street-corner musicians and over bridges; of stealing kisses in secret passageways; or picnicking in front of the Eiffel Tower…

Kauai, Hawaii

This rainy island in Hawaii is everything you wanted Jamaica to be after watching Cocktail. Clear waterfalls, majestic hikes, and a mysterious but lush landscape is only the beginning. For couples looking for a little adventure and a lot of privacy, Kauai can’t be beat.

Madrid, Spain

Ask anyone who’s been to Madrid what they remember most, and you may be answered quite simply with “the heat”. That’s because this city is oozing with heat. Intensity. Flavor. Sound. Color. This is the perfect place for couples looking to turn up the fire. Hellooo,  flamenco!

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Here Madrid’s fiery flamenco dance has met its match in the ultra-sensual tango. If you don’t come to Buenos Aires for a romantic vacation, there’s a good chance you’ll get one anyway. The best part? You can slip below the equator and heat things up when it gets cold at home (our winter is their summer).

Venice, Italy

I know it’s a bit cliché, but that’s only because Venice is so full of romantic thunder that it simply can’t be left off the list. And it’s not all singing gondoliers, either! Venice is about getting lost together. It’s easy-does-it days wandering streets afoot and making new discoveries…then turning up the heat by attending an evening opera or donning a mysterious carnevale mask!

Pick-a-Cay, Bahamas

No this isn’t an actual place, but it could be! The Bahamas are home to much more than the mega-resort, Atlantis. In this romantic chain of keys and cays, you can literally rent your own private island. When the only people on an island besides you and your lover are there to serve you, you’ve got a recipe for can’t-miss romance.

Woodstock, Vermont

Vermont may be hallowed ground among skiers, but if you follow my blog, you know that I love a winter destination in the summer time. Woodstock may just be the perfect combination of Americana, scenic nature, and cuddling opportunities.

Lake Como, Italy

For pure serenity, languid living, and resort amenities, you can’t beat the Italian lake region. Hey, if it’s good enough for George Clooney…

Bora Bora

Maybe it’s the overwater bungalows. Perhaps it’s the pearl farms. It could be the tranquil afternoons spent sunning on the powder. Or days floating aboard a private catamaran. One thing is certain: Bora Bora is possibly the most stunning jewel in the South Pacific crown. Foodies, consider yourselves warned: once you’ve tasted curry here, you may never want it anywhere else.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

If you think Mexico is nothing but college kids on spring break and tequila shots at the swim-up bar, this quaint town will prove you wrong. Rest up at the ultra-luxe Rosewood, explore the flavors of un-named chilis and edible flowers, then smell the healing scents from the spa or your patio (literally—they are one of the best lavender producers in the world). San Miguel de Allende sets a beautiful stage for a sleepy, sunny, relaxing holiday with someone you love.

Jade Mountain Resort, Saint Lucia

There’s a reason why Jade Mountain refers to their guest suites as sanctuaries—and it isn’t just the size (most are 1,800-2,000 square feet). Every feature—from the massive infinity pools to the panoramic views to the healing watercolor decor are meant to inspire and nurture your spirit. Jade Mountain’s hillside sanctuaries are easily the most romantic accommodations on the planet and truly worth the splurge. This one is on my fly-or-die list!
